July is Ransomware Awareness Month
It’s estimated that the average cost of a ransomware attack has grown nearly 600% in the last 6 years, from $761,106 to $5.13M. Cyber criminals are getting bolder and more sophisticated every day. It’s important to get ahead of such attacks–the average downtime you can expect after a ransomware attack is 24 days! And only 14% of small businesses have an incident response plan. (Yes, Lasco can help with that!)
How can you protect your business? Here are some tips to get you started:
- Do NOT reuse passwords! Use a password manager to create secure, unique passwords for each account.
- Enable Multi-Factor Authentication, and stick to more phish-resistant options, such as a hardware token or an authenticator app.
- Practice a 3-2-1 Backup method: Have 3 copies, 2 different media, and have 1 stored offsite.
- Have an incident response plan in place in the event of an attack.
Lasco can help you identify your vulnerabilities and strengthen your defenses to prevent a ransom attack; we can help you develop a working incident response plan; and we can provide staff training to make your employees more resistant to cyber attack.
